Second Set of Eyes Plan Recommended Breakdown

Because students begin their college admissions work at various times, no sample breakdown will be perfectly accurate. However, most students will fall under one of the following two scenarios, depending on the date that work commences:

Sample Breakdown #1:

This is most appropriate for a student beginning work in advance of August 1 before their senior year of high school.

1. Initial meeting with Colleen (approx. 1 hour) to complete the following tasks:

  • Brainstorm running list of schools

  • Discuss Common Application and Coalition Application work

  • Make sure that testing plan is set

  • Discuss teacher and counselor recommendation preparations

  • Agree upon planned breakdown of hours

2. Remote review of Common Application and Coalition Application (approx. 30 minutes)

3. Completion of the Common Application personal essay with essay coaches and additional support from Colleen (approx. 3 hours)*

4. Remote review of teacher recommendation work (approx. 30-60 minutes)

5. Meeting with Colleen in June or July (approx. 1 hour) to complete the following tasks:

  • Finalize college list

  • Finalize strategies involving application type (ED, etc.)

  • Review progress to date

6. Meeting with Colleen in August (approx. 1 hour) to complete the following tasks:

  • Review the Common/Coalition Applications post-rollover

  • Review all completed supplements

  • Brainstorm supplemental essay topics as time allows

7. Remote review of parent and student “senior packet" information for the student’s high school counselor (approx. 30-60 minutes)

8. Completion of supplemental essay work with essay coaches and additional support from Colleen (approx. 1 hour)*

9. Time reserved to ask Colleen college admissions questions that will arise throughout the year (approx. 1 hour)

  • As a reminder, all email questions and communication with Colleen are billed in 15-minute increments.

  • Logistical questions regarding scheduling, status checks, and progress updates should go through Rebeccah, and are calculated separately. All Second Set of Eyes Students have an additional ten hours of this type of administrative work included with their packages.

This hourly breakdown is estimated and will depend on individual student progress. Additionally, it assumes that students will complete all of their assigned homework in a timely manner and arrive prepared to each meeting; if students are unprepared for a single meeting, it will not be possible to complete the tasks above in ten hours. We advise putting any remaining time towards supplemental essay work, as most students will have to complete many hours of supplemental essay work at home beyond the hour allocated above.

*All work completed in essay coach meetings will go through another level of review by Colleen after the meeting at no additional charge.
