When we first met, we briefly discussed colleges under current consideration. It is helpful to have an update on everyone's preferences since the time that the initial paperwork was completed. We intentionally ask parents and students to complete these forms separately, for two reasons. First, we need to learn the information. Second, we need to recognize whether parent and student preferences are not aligned, so we can proceed accordingly (a lack of alignment is normal and not a problem- we just need to know).
This can relate to the college search, individual school selection, or anything else.
The more information I know about your unique situation, the more I can help. Finances can be a sensitive subject, but I encourage parents to be transparent with me. We do not have to share detailed information with your student.
